Housecleaning Music

I don't know about you, but I hate cleaning house more than anything...probably because I am the world's biggest procrastinator when it comes to the matter, and so it is ALWAYS a huge job that is never finished. (I know, I know, TMI) Well, if you don't like it either, I do have something that will help a bit. :)

I got an Ipod Nano for Christmas that facilitates this, but any MP3 player will do, or maybe just a great CD collection... This is my Housecleaning Music set, and it will get you up and moving as you clean...and make the job a whole lot more fun. It is impossible for me to play these songs and not get up and dance through the chores:

Pork Chop Express -- Theme from "Big Trouble in Little China"
Goody Two-Shoes -- Adam Ant -- Antics in the Forbidden Zone
Draggin' The Line -- REM -- Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack
Prince Charming -- Adam Ant (blame my baby sister...she turned me on to Adam decades ago -- I even went to a concert)
Word Up -- Melanie G -- Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack
Magic Dance -- David Bowie -- Labyrinth soundtrack
Still Alive -- GlaDOS and John Coulton -- theme from Portal video game
Austin Powers (Soul Bossa Nova) -- there are several variations -- this is the theme music
Vive Le Rock -- Adam Ant (most of his songs have the right bouncy rhythym...)
Chilly Down -- David Bowie -- Labyrinth soundtrack
Friend or Foe -- Adam Ant
I'm Too Sexy -- Right Said Fred -- Up
Ant Music -- Adam Ant

They are also good walking music, but you don't have quite as much freedom for abandon on the street. :)

I plan to add to the list (all of which I got from ITunes, though some were harder to find than others) as I think of songs with the right characteristics. I know I am missing Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" at the moment, and plan on rectifying that problem today. Oh! and I just realized that the Brobdingnagian Bards' "Hobbit Dance" will also go well. :)

If you have any suggestions or questions, comment me, and I will look into them!

I like housecleaning, and I do it in silence. Specifically, I like repetitive tasks that take long stretches of time and don't require many executive decisions (such as where to move stuff and in what order). An example would be scrubbing the floor. Such tasks allow me to think about the next scene in a story I'm writing, or do some outlining in my head.

That is another approach. :) When I get to the point where everything HAS a place (and I can see the floor enough to scrub or vaccuum...) I think I will give that a try, but when I do have to move stuff around and sort and pitch, I think the music keeps me from crying. ;)

Draggin' The Line -- REM -- Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack

Is that a cover of the Tommy James & the Shondells "Draggin' the Line"? If it is, I might have to grab it myself.

Probably. I knew it was an older song than I thought REM to have been the originator of, but I couldn't remember the original. It really is an awesome job. It doesn't sound much like REM at all, yet still has a slightly updated feel to the original without changing the mood. Is that coherent...? ;)
